My friend sent me this list from a 1st grade school teacher that had twenty-six students in her class. She presented each child in her classroom the 1st half of a well-known proverb
and asked them to come up with the remainder of the proverb. I thought I would take the same list and ask Large and Medium and see what they could come up with. I'll list some of my favorites. (Label Key: L=Large, M=Medium, O=Other 1st Graders)
1. Don't change horses
M= When they're running.
2. Strike while the
O= bug is close.
3. It's always darkest before
M=Sunrise.
4. Never underestimate the power of
M&L= God
5. You can lead a horse to water but
M=Don't let it swim, L=Not in the house, O=How?
6. Don't bite the hand that
O=looks dirty.
7. No news is
M=Good.
8. A miss is as good as a
O=Mr.
9. You can't teach an old dog new
L=tricks O= Math
10. If you lie down with dogs, you'll
O=stink in the morning, M=get licked
11. Love all, trust
O=Me, M=People, L=God
12. The pen is mightier than the
O=pigs, M=paper, L=Eraser
13. An idle mind is
M=Not doing anything, L=Good
14. Where there's smoke there's
O=pollution, C=fire
15. Happy the bride who
O=gets all the presents, M=gets married, L=loves
16. A penny saved is
O=not much, L=Good
17. Two's company, three's
O=the Musketeers, L=fun
18. Don't put off till tomorrow what
O=you put on to go to bed, M=is not right, L=bad
19. Laugh and the whole world laughs with you, cry and
O=You have to blow your nose, L=you are sad
20. There are none so blind as
O=Stevie Wonder, L=mean people
21. Children should be seen and not
O=spanked or grounded, M=eat (I promise we feed the kid!)

O=get new batteries, M&L=try, try again

L=Don't like
24. When the blind lead the blind
O=get out of the way, M=they don't know their following him,
L=they bump
25. A bird in the hand
O=is going to poop on you, M=is a bird
26. Better late than
O=Pregnant (that from a first grader????)
